Frequently Asked Questions

  • Your initial consultation is always free.  If you would like to move forward after that, I will send you a written quote. I charge a transparent, up-front fee based on the level of service you would like, the complexity of your tax return, and the level of tax planning, if any, that you desire.

My goal is to save you at least as much as my fee, when possible, through careful tax planning and identifying opportunities for tax savings.

  • Yes.  I use Drake Portals for secure online file transfer. The portal and all client files are protected by tough, industry-standard security measures. All transmissions are secured with 256-bit SSL encryption, and files are encrypted at rest on the server.  My tax practice has a Written Information Security Plan (WISP) on file that determines how I safeguard IT and sensitive client data.  I do not print or store paper documents.  I only transmit sensitive financial information via the portal, and strongly encourage clients to use the portal rather than texting or emailing documents to me.

  • It will be a no pressure opportunity to discuss your tax situation, what's going on in your life, and to determine if I might be able to help.  This will not be a sales call.  If we're not a good match, that's 100% ok.  If I don't have the expertise to help, I'll let you know up front and refer you to someone who specializes in that area of tax or financial planning.

  • No.  I intentionally designed my practice to work virtually with clients across the United States.  All of our meetings will be conducted securely over Google Meets.  We will be able to exchange documents securely using the online portal.  If you have state-specific questions that are outside my area of expertise, I will refer you to someone who has the knowledge to help you.

  • I prepare tax returns and provide tax advice for individuals, sole proprietors, and single-member LLCs.

I don’t currently offer tax services for partnerships, S or C corporations, estates, or trusts.

  • First, let's have an introductory call to see if we would be a good fit for each other.

There are several reasons you might want to work with me:

    1. I have time for you and will return your calls and emails.

    2. I speak in plain English.  The tax code is complicated, and you deserve someone who will explain financial and tax concepts clearly and respectfully, so that you can make wise business and investing decisions.

    3. I actually enjoy taxes.  I don't know everything, but I'm a lifelong learner and spend a huge chunk of my time reading about tax law, tax strategy, and how to save my clients money.

    4. Hiring a tax pro can save you time, reduce stress, and often put more money in your pocket by catching things you might otherwise miss.

    5. Your situation has become complex: Owning a business, being self‑employed, having rentals, investments, major life changes (marriage, divorce, inheritance, starting a business), or foreign income are classic triggers to bring in a pro. Once you start seeing consolidated 1099s, K‑1s, or multiple schedules, the time and risk of going it alone usually outweighs the cost of professional help.
